Now in its seventh generation, the well-loved Hyundai Elantra has undergone numerous changes over the years since its initial debut in 1990. The current generation Elantra was launched in 2021 and continues today with the latest 2023 model. With a boldly modern design and a focus on high-tech features, the Elantra’s appearance is reminiscent of today’s sleek, futuristic electric vehicles but with a much more accessible price tag. Read on to discover more about the Elantra, from its available trim levels and tech features to its performance capabilities and intentionally modern design.
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra is available in seven different trim levels: the base SE, SEL, Limited, and N Line gas-powered trims, the Blue and Limited hybrid trims, and the N high-performance trim. When it comes to standard features, the base trim level includes an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, solar glass, remote keyless entry, a 4.2-inch gauge cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist.
Higher trim levels include the option to add features such as a proximity key with push-button start, a Bluelink Connected Car System, hands-free smart trunk release, leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch navigation touch screen, smart cruise control, parking collision-avoidance assist, wireless device charging, and a premium Bose sound system, providing a highly customizable range of vehicles to suit any driver.
The Elantra offers a range of performance options depending on your preference. The base trim features an inline two-liter four-cylinder engine that produces up to 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, which is paired with a Smartstream intelligent variable transmission.
Meanwhile, the performance-based N model features a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces up to 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque, providing a great option if you’re looking for something a little sportier. This model also features launch control, an N Grin control system with Eco, Normal, Sport, N, and Custom modes, and electronically controlled suspension built into its body.
If you prefer a hybrid system, the Elantra has that, too. The hybrid models feature a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder hybrid engine that produces up to 104 horsepower and 109 lb-ft torque. Additionally, the electric motor outputs 43 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a combined system horsepower of 139. Of course, the hybrid trims offer the best fuel efficiency, achieving up to 54 combined mpg, and the gas-powered versions can get up to 37 combined mpg.
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra, rated five stars by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, comes with several safety features. Built into the body, there’s a range of air bags spread throughout the car, including front air bags, side-impact air bags, and side-curtain air bags for your front and rear passengers. Also included standard are driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, and smart cruise control. The premium Limited trim offers even more safety features, such as forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction-turning detection and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go.
The interior cabin of the 2023 Elantra is designed with a luxurious, futuristic style in mind, just like the exterior. The console focuses its dials and knobs around you to give you a control-center feel. The standard trim level features a cloth interior, whereas the Limited trim offers leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The Elantra is also one of the most spacious in its class, with plenty of legroom in the rear passenger seats and 14.2 cubic feet of cargo volume.
The Limited trim also adds heated front seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seatback with an armrest and cupholders, seatback pockets, illuminated vanity mirrors, and dual automatic climate controls, as well as customizable, 64-color ambient lighting throughout the cabin.
Depending on your choice of trim, an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touch-screen system that controls many of the car’s features (including the six- or eight-speaker Bose audio system, climate control, and navigation) dominates the dashboard. It also includes features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity, a wireless charging pad, and voice recognition. A 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster is also available, displaying important information such as speed, fuel level, and navigation directions behind your steering wheel.
With the Bluelink Connected Car System, you can remotely lock and unlock the doors, start the engine, and adjust the climate control, all using a smartphone app.
