The PALISADE, one of Hyundai’s relatively newer offerings, has found quick success thanks to its upscale appeal and family-focused convenience features. Although the PALISADE hasn’t had a significant redesign since its debut in 2020, it has undergone some cosmetic updates for the 2023 model. Its front end has received a styling refresh, placing it more solidly within Hyundai’s portfolio. However, the silhouette retains the same presence that it’s always had.
Inside, the PALISADE offers a luxurious environment with high-end materials and state-of-the-art tech features. The base trim level of the SUV features a cloth interior in black or gray, and higher trim levels offer H-Tex or premium leather-trimmed seats as well as microfiber or melange trim, quilted leather door panels, and leather-wrapped steering wheel designs. It features a 3.8-liter six-cylinder direct injection engine that produces up to 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is a second option for all trim levels. While maintaining an extra emphasis on safety and handling, the PALISADE still has a hefty acceleration rating of zero to 60 mph in as few as 6.4 seconds.
The PALISADE also allows you to tow up to 5,000 pounds and includes a tow mode, trailer sway control, and trailer pre-wiring. Despite its larger size, it maintains a decent fuel efficiency rating of 22 combined mpg for four-wheel-drive models and 21 combined mpg for all-wheel-drive models, with a fuel tank capacity of 18.8 gallons.
Although the PALISADE boasts a luxurious interior design, it places a high emphasis on being kid-friendly and comfortable. Depending on your choice of trim, the SUV can seat up to eight passengers and enable you to add power-folding second- and third-row seating. With wide-opening rear doors, it’s easy for third-row passengers to climb inside. On long drives or when carrying a lot of gear, everyone can stay comfortable with the ample space available, including over 86 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats.
Speaking of cargo space, this SUV has a variety of storage spaces throughout the cabin, including a compartment underneath the floor to stow wet or dirty items, door cubbies, a center console, a large center bin with a retractable cover, and retractable cupholders. In higher trim levels, there’s the option to add heated and ventilated front-, second-, and third-row seats, power-reclining and power-folding seats, and even a cozy thigh cushion extension for the driver’s seat.
Of course, the latest PALISADE has the newest technology and safety features. Each trim level includes a 12.3-inch touch-screen display, SiriusXM radio, onboard navigation and traffic flow, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, multiple device connections, dynamic voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a rear seat quiet mode. On higher trim levels, there is also the option to add a full-display digital rearview mirror, a head-up display, wireless device charging, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, and a Driver Talk in-vehicle intercom system.
This family-friendly SUV has plenty of safety features to make for a confident, worry-free ride. Hyundai constructed it with bodyside reinforcements; 2.5-mph bumpers; front, side impact, and knee airbags; seat weight and track sensors; and an anti-lock braking system with four-wheel disc brakes. Every PALISADE comes standard with plenty of driving assist features, including forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with a semi-autonomous driving mode, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. Higher trim levels include Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.
The PALISADE offers five trim levels: the SE, the SEL, the XRT, the Limited, and the Calligraphy. In terms of pricing, the standard SE trim level of the latest model has a starting MSRP of $35,900. The price range for the most premium trim level, the Calligraphy, tops out at $49,850. It also comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty, and three years, or 36,000 miles, of complimentary maintenance coverage.
