Trim Levels

The 2024 Hyundai KONA and Subaru Crosstrek are available in four trim levels. The KONA’s trims start with the base SE, followed by the SEL, the sporty N Line, and the luxurious Limited. For the 2024 model year, Hyundai has given the KONA a significant makeover, resulting in a slightly larger vehicle and upgraded gear and technology. Regardless of the trim level, you’ll enjoy standard exterior features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, roof rails, and auto-folding side mirrors. Overall, the SUV has a modern and futuristic appearance designed to turn heads on the road.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek features a similar trim lineup, with the Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited. However, it doesn’t receive an exterior overhaul for the latest model year, focusing more on off-roading and performance capabilities than modern looks. Standard exterior features include 17-inch alloy wheels, responsive LED headlights, folding side mirrors, a roof spoiler, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance. New for 2024, Subaru offers the Crosstrek in an adventure-themed Wilderness package. It doesn’t have the KONA’s wow factor but does have a rugged and ready appearance.

Interior Features

Hyundai added extra length to the 2024 KONA’s body and wheelbase and redesigned the seats to create a more spacious interior. This iteration of the KONA is slightly larger than previous versions, and it boasts more legroom and cargo space, particularly for rear passengers. The interior design is just as futuristic as the exterior, with ambient lighting, a power liftgate, a curved infotainment system screen, optional leather upholstery, and a steering-column-mounted gearshift. The dashboard features two 12.3-inch displays — one for the infotainment system, with an easy-to-use interface and wireless connectivity, and one for the gauge display.

The 2024 Crosstrek also has impressive legroom, storage, and cargo space for a compact SUV, but in a more utilitarian package. Its simple interior design focuses on practical features over modern and luxurious perks. Basic interior features include sound-reducing technology and materials, cloth upholstery, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a 7-inch infotainment display. Upgrades include leather upholstery, a Harman Kardon stereo system, and an 11.6-inch infotainment display.

Performance and Towing

Hyundai offers the 2024 KONA with two engine options. The base engine is a 2-liter four-cylinder that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The optional upgrade is a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that generates 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. While the EPA has not yet released official fuel figures for this model, expect to get as much as 30 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. We also expect Hyundai to release an electric version of the KONA with a 260-mile range.

The 2024 Crosstrek has slightly lower power and performance figures than the KONA. Its base engine is a 2-liter four-cylinder that gets 152 horsepower, while the higher trims gain a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 182 horsepower. The EPA estimates the Crosstrek gets 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. All models come standard with all-wheel drive, as is to be expected of this off-road-ready compact SUV. The KONA’s standard powertrain is front-wheel drive, resulting in a more responsive and peppier driving experience.

If you plan to tow, the Crosstrek can pull up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. While Hyundai hasn’t yet released towing figures for the upcoming KONA, we expect it to tow a similar weight of just over 3,500 pounds.

Safety

Hyundai equips all 2024 KONA trims with an extensive suite of safety and driver-assistance features. These include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alerts, blind-spot monitoring, and seven air bags. Available features include adaptive cruise control, a self-parking system, and driver monitoring. With a KONA, you’ll also benefit from Hyundai’s award-winning warranty coverage, including:

  • 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty.
  • Five-year or 60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty.
  • Five-year, unlimited 24-hour roadside assistance.

The 2024 Crosstrek also has state-of-the-art safety features, including Subaru’s EyeSight package of driver-assistance technologies, which come standard. All trims include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, automatic emergency steering, pre-collision braking, and pre-collision throttle management.
