What is covered by the Hyundai Warranty?
A vehicle’s safety features and ratings are not the only things that’ll give you peace of mind as a vehicle owner. When you buy something brand-new, warranties can have a big effect on both the value of your purchase and your overall customer experience. Hyundai’s warranty, offered with every new Hyundai, is no exception. Known as “America’s Best Warranty,” Hyundai offers a range of benefits alongside your purchase. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the various elements of the warranty and the wide range of components it covers.
Powertrain Warranty
Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the repair or replacement of defective powertrain components, such as engine or transmission parts, that were originally installed or manufactured by Hyundai. It has a duration of 10 years or 100,000 miles and applies to the original owner of Hyundai models from 2004 onward. Second owners and beyond will have their powertrain components covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Coverage for commercial vehicles, such as taxis, rentals, or delivery services, isn’t included.
New Vehicle Limited Warranty
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty is valid for five years or 60,000 miles and covers the repair or replacement of any defective components installed or manufactured by Hyundai. However, it covers some specific parts for differing lengths of time or mileage. For example, in most Hyundai vehicles, your new vehicle limited warranty covers the radio and audio system, including the navigation system, DVD player, and Bluetooth, for five years or 60,000 miles. Though there are exceptions, it typically only covers batteries on the majority of Hyundai vehicles for three years or 36,000 miles.
Similarly, your warranty covers paint for three years or 36,000 miles, air conditioner refrigerant for one year with unlimited miles, adjustments for one year or 12,000 miles, and wear items such as brake pads, filters, and bulbs for one year or 12,000 miles.
Anti-Perforation Warranty
Hyundai’s Anti-Perforation Warranty covers the perforation corrosion, or rusted hole(s), of body sheet metal due to factory defects. This warranty has a duration of seven years and unlimited miles starting with the 2005 model year. This warranty doesn’t include surface corrosion.
Emissions Warranty
Hyundai provides two emissions warranties with slight differences between the two. The first is the Federal Emissions Defect and Performance Warranty, which has a duration of eight years or 80,000 miles and covers the repair or replacement of major emissions control components in the case of their failure to pass EPA-approved inspection or maintenance. These components include the catalytic converter, the engine control module, and the onboard emissions diagnostic device (also known as OBD-II).
The second emissions warranty is the California Emissions Control Systems Warranty, which covers vehicles manufactured under California’s specifications and registered in the states of California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. This warranty is in addition to the first Federal Emissions warranty.
Replacement Parts and Accessories Warranty
The Replacement Parts and Accessories Limited Warranty covers the repair or replacement of any official Hyundai parts or accessories that are defective under normal use conditions and were supplied by Hyundai. This warranty has a duration of 12 months or 12,000 miles. Genuine Hyundai-supplied parts sold by an authorized dealership are under warranty for 12 months, regardless of whether the dealership installed them.
Hybrid/Electric Battery and Hybrid System Components Warranty
If your vehicle is an electric or hybrid Hyundai, its battery and system components, including the starter/generator, power control unit, and automatic transmission, will be under warranty for a duration of 10 years or 100,000 miles. Though all electric vehicle batteries will degrade naturally over the years, Hyundai’s batteries will never degrade more than 70% of the original capacity during the warranty period.
24/7 Roadside Assistance
Hyundai offers 24/7 roadside assistance for the first five years of ownership from the date the vehicle was first put into service. This program doesn’t have a mileage limit and includes towing services, trip interruption, keys locked in your vehicle, flat tires, dead batteries, and an empty fuel tank. When calling the helpline at 1-800-243-7766, you’ll need to plan to provide your name, Vehicle Identification Number, vehicle mileage, vehicle location, and a description of your problem or issue.
Many Hyundai vehicles also include Enhanced Roadside Assistance, which allows you to call for assistance using a button on your rearview mirror that transmits your vehicle’s location automatically.
Owner Assurance Program
In addition to the range of warranties offered, Hyundai also provides an Owner Assurance Program, which benefits any owner of a brand-new Hyundai vehicle. Not only can you receive complimentary maintenance, such as tire rotations or oil changes, from approved Hyundai technicians for the first three years or 36,000 miles of ownership, but you’ll also have three years of complimentary access to Hyundai’s Bluelink app. Bluelink allows you to remotely lock or unlock your car, remotely start your engine and adjust climate control, find your car’s location, and keep track of its vital statistics and alerts.
Plus, the navigation system in your Hyundai will always receive complimentary map updates, ensuring that you’re navigating using the most currently available road changes or new points of interest.
